A Christian couple is trying to raise $2 million to create a life-sized statue of Jesus and Buddha on the Brooklyn Bridge. The couple, who also have two children, has raised $300,000 in the first 48 hours. If they meet their goal, they would make it the largest statue in the world and the first in New York City. They have already raised $2,000 so far and a further $2,000 are still being pledged.

The statue is called The Life-sized Jesus and Buddha Statue in the Sky for the Brooklyn Bridge. The team hopes the sculpture will serve as a testament to the message of Jesus Christ, a "life-size representation of His life in the world." The crowdfunding campaign started by New York artist Ben Cohen, who said he and his wife, Sarah, "wanted to help the world see what it means to be a Christian," The Wall Street Journal reports. They want to create the statue with "a message of unity, love and peace, with a message of peace on earth," The New York Post adds. Cohen said the statue would be made with a "peaceful message of reconciliation," the Journal reports.

The statue, which is based on a drawing by Cohen and his wife, will be unveiled on September 20, according to the Independent. The team is now raising money for the project via Kickstarter. According to the Independent, the statue will be completed and displayed in the Sky Garden at the Brooklyn Bridge, which is dedicated to the memory of Christopher Columbus. As of now, the crowdfunding campaign has raised over $16,000, which Cohen said he hopes to raise "to ensure a smooth and smooth delivery process for the statue." The sculpture will be up until the beginning of November. Cohen and his wife have already started a GoFundMe page for the sculpture. "We want to ensure the statue gets to where it's supposed to go," Cohen said in a statement. The couple are donating 10 percent of the profits from the statue to a variety of organizations, including the Christian organization, the Salvation Army. While the statue will be in Brooklyn for a few weeks, the couple is expecting a "good influx" of couples who are interested in seeing it up close. Cohen added, "When the statue opens, we hope it becomes an integral part of the city and its tourism."
