Many of my conversations with my Mexican friends, students and neighbors have been very positive, often touching on the subject of their own faith traditions.

My faith experiences have been enriched by the experiences of my Mexican colleagues. Many of them, like me, have had personal experiences of conversion that have changed their lives. My personal story, however, will never be the same.

My own faith has a history of controversy, however. I was raised a Roman Catholic. My family and I were raised in a Catholic family. My first memory of Christianity is when I was 10, and for the first time in my life, I had the same experiences as other people. I went to college, and I took a lot of courses on religion, but I didn't study anything specific. I was just a good student. I became a journalist, and I've always had a passion for writing about things that I thought were important. I wrote a column for the San Antonio Express-News about religion and science.
