The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has decided to move forward with the development of the "Afro" program. In a special email sent today to members, a news release was released: For years, Church members have been expressing concern about the inclusion of an Afro in the Priesthood program. Today, Church leaders announced that the Priesthood and auxiliary work for young African Americans will now include a new program that will bring members of African descent into the Priesthood. In the future, those who were baptized as youth will be able to receive the Priesthood as young adults, and members of the Priesthood will be encouraged to consider attending a Sunday School or a temple recommend class to learn more about the priesthood. "Afro-American culture and history have been important elements in the history of the Church. We are grateful to have a more representative priesthood program for young people of African descent. This change will allow our Church members to find out more about how God has given His Church to us and how they can help participate in His work," said Elder Richard G.
